There is nothing new when Huntsville Alabama is named to a 10 ten best places to live list, as this has happened on many occasions over the last few years.

However given the current upheaval in the nation’s financial system, it is comforting to see Huntsville and Madison county top a recent list from Forbes Magazine for the best economic places for recessionary times.

The analysis looked at three primary factors; housing affordability, property taxes, and job growth. A housing affordability index of 100 indicates that a family with median income can afford a median priced home. A index of 100 or greater is considered good. The top ten list is as follows:

County / City Housing Affordability Median Taxes Job Growth
Huntsville Alabama 221 $577 3.4%
Little Rock Ark. 194 $888 0.9%
Denver Co. 151 $1536 3.1%
Cincinnati Oh. 163 $1241 1.2%
Greenville Sc. 150 $894 0.9%
New Orleans La. 167 $308 0.3%
Des Moines Ia. 190 $2304 1.6%
Mobile Al. 146 $454 0.5%
Huston Tx. 168 $2816 4.7%
Kansas City Mo. 177 $2590 1.5%
